What is the high road?
The concept of the political high road is premised on the realization that our advancing technology is giving us unprecedented powers of creation and destruction, and that we need to elevate our primitive politics in order to manage our technology without destroying ourselves and the planet.
Several fundamental realizations are self-evident:
1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and climate change are existential challenges for human civilization.
2. Human civilization is a part of – not separate from – the natural world, and subject to the laws of nature.
3. We have no unresolvable issues. In fact, our technology has given us greater resources and ability to solve our problems than ever before.
4. The culture wars are a manufactured distraction from the methodical consolidation of national wealth & power, and the resulting destruction of the middle class.
5. We are being relentlessly promoted/propagandized by bad faith politicians, media, and a horde of conflict entrepreneurs to gather into tribal silos, mistrust and assume the worst of each other, and to be in increasingly violent conflict with each other.
6. If you want to know the source of all this self-destructive chaos, follow the money. Who owns the media & social media platforms; who finances the politicians; who gains from our national dis-integration?
We will develop these themes over time, demonstrating what an honorable political process and policy output in service to the general well-being can look like.
The high road is a simple concept: honorable participants, honest debate grounded in objective reality, in service to the greater good.
It sounds simple, and it is. The only obstacle is…us. As Pogo said, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
The current fever will run its course until it breaks, or the patient dies. Assuming survival, The High Road will attempt to illuminate the path to the high road. We can do this!
May the force be with us.
